Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.
- Proverbs 22:6
I started volunteering in children's church and I love it! I love watching Shiloh interact with other babies. I love the conversation with the other women working alongside me. I love watching the littles grow and learn!
I'll be honest, I was not thrilled at the idea of working in the nursery area. I didn't want to become that stereotypical mom who volunteered back there because "that's what we're suppose to do." Don't get me wrong, I love and respect the women who work back there. I wanted the opportunity to serve alongside them and meet all the babies my son will grow up with. I just didn't want to do it out of feeling like it was an expectation of me.
But I could feel God nudging my heart in that direction. Tenderly. Softly.
So I began volunteering with the infants and guess what? I love it. It's a joy. I've looked forward getting up early to spend time with them.
As I was going through the training, the team leader was showing me the ins and outs of taking care of the littles. Diapers, wipes, cleaning, etc. She showed me where the snacks were and how to take care of sleepy babies. And then she said one thing that struck me.
"Well, Rachel, I think that's it. Most importantly, spend time praying over these babies and interceding for them."
Whoa. I had never considered the importance of my role back there until that moment. I had a bigger job than just wiping bums. I get the privilege and responsibility of praying over these tiny disciples. And it's a joy.
Mothering and taking care of babies is not for the weak or faint of heart. We want to raise tiny disciples of Jesus and that means we're not waiting to do it. We start right here, right now, at the ripe age of seven-months-old.
What an honor!
